Los Angeles. The city of movie stars and celebrities. The home of numerous millionaires and exclusive night clubs. Hollywood. From the eye of foreigners, Los Angeles is the city of the rich, where everyday was filled with worldly pleasure, beauty, and luxury.
A life of fantasy. Yet to hold that dreams, those outside the spotlight have to be kept away.
Under the glamorous life of celebrities peppered by paparazzi, those who weren’t so lucky to have been born with incredible talent, ridiculously rich parents, or astounding amount of luck found themselves in a similar state with the average, everyday citizens of New York, Washington, and Shanghai. The average metropolitan life was not as pretty as it was shown.
The highest floor of an apartment on Grand Ave street consisted of a single apartment. With the apartment’s size, short distance to the heart of the city, not to mention the state of the art technology used to make the apartment as comfortable as possible, one can imagine the heaven defying amount of money to even sleep in the apartment for one night.
Nine in the morning. Beside an queen size bed, a digital alarm rang. Laying down on the bed was a dark toned man in a striped pyjamas. He smiled as he woke up, walking straight to the living room, where a 60+ inch TV was left on all night long.
…The music ‘Better Despacito’ by Des Pacito passed ‘Despacito’, and has since then…
It was apparent that the news put the man in a good mood. He whistled as he entered the kitchen, making a mug of espresso for himself. The tune he hummed as he went on his morning routine, taking a long shower and rewatching an old TV series was a familiar tune.
“Des, pa, cito.” He murmured under his breath as he chuckled and went on surfing on the net.
His name was Des Pacito. Of course, it wasn’t really his name. He changed it legally after his one of his video went viral overnight.
The music that blatantly ripped off the tune and lyric off Despacito. Only by claiming it as a parody as well as calling it several unsavory favor from corrupt lawyers could he make it to where he was.
He was a fence. Someone who becomes the middle man for stolen goods. Until Better Despacito went viral. Invitations to talkshow. Media coverage. He went from rag to riches overnight. And he, being the man he was, splurged it all.
Fancy apartment. Crazy, barely legal parties. A cruise ship. He went on living like those from the top of the world, and he planned on staying.
Noon. Valentino shirt. Stefan Bremer shoes.Vintage Levi Strauss’ jeans. Des spent an hour in front of his computer, taking apart Despacito original song, rhythm, lyric and all, in an attempt to make a new song. An even better Despacito.
As he worked, his mind sometimes went toward the woman he met last night. She wasn’t with him in the morning, so he assumed she had left early. A pity. He would love to have her number. He turned off his PC before he put on a pair of black sunglasses, and left his apartment. Again, he left the TV in his apartment on, yet it was the last thing in his mind.
It was interview time.
…Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee had prepared a lawsuit against Des Pacito, claiming that the latter man had used their song for commercial use without their permission.
“Mr. Pacito, how do you feel about your song topping the original Despacito by a wide margin?”
“Original? Your words hurt me. I composed, write, and play the song myself. While I certainly draw some inspiration, to call it unoriginal hurt my soul.”
Luis Fonsi, also known as the songwriter of Despacito, claimed that he has a concrete proof that Better Despacito was ripped off his work.
“Your popularity has of course changed your lifestyle. How does your family think about this?”
A further interview with music analyst, Sarah Montague revealed that….
“They were happy for me. My mother wished that I continue college with my new found wealth, but you don’t really need education to success, am I right?”
Pictures of Des Pacito’s work desk have started to circulate on some circle of the internet. The screen shown on the picture showed that…
“Better Despacito is my masterpiece. Music is my passion. I intend to continue spreading my music to the whole world. Look forward to my next single, Despacito 2 in the upcoming month.”
He laughed at his not so subtle promotion, drunk in his fame.
Despacito is a spanish word. It means slowly, slow. While the man itself hadn’t notice, his short career and popularity would all slowly crumble into nothing.
His career was dying. Despacito way.
